Bayers process reactions - The Bayer Process: From Bauxite to Aluminum Hydroxide
The Bayer method includes two main processes: At normal temperature, the molar ratio of sodium oxide to alumina in the sodium aluminate solution is 1.8. As long as add aluminum hydroxide as a seed crystal and stir, the aluminum oxide in the solution can be gradually precipitated as aluminum hydroxide. The first step in the process is the mixing of ground bauxite into a solution of sodium hydroxide. By applying steam and pressure in tanks containing the mixture, the bauxite slowly dissolves. The alumina released reacts with the sodium hydroxide to form sodium aluminate Gibbsite: Al (OH)3 + Na+ + OH- Î Al (OH)4- + Na+ Böhmite and Diaspore:

Bayer Process for Alumina Extraction - Dealing with Red Mud
The production of alumina by the Bayer process involves three main steps: digestion of bauxite, precipitation of aluminum trihydrate (gibbsite, Al2O3.3H2O) from the resulting solution and calcining of the gibbsite at 980 - 1200oC to produce alumina. The calcination step absorbs 3 GJ/t alumina or 25% of the total Bayer process. The Bayer process is the principal industrial means of refining bauxite to produce alumina (aluminium oxide). Bauxite, the most important ore of aluminium, contains only 30?54% aluminium oxide, (alumina), Al2O3, the rest being a mixture of silica, various iron oxides, and titanium dioxide.

The Bayer process is the principal industrial means of refining bauxite to produce alumina and was developed by Carl Josef Bayer. Bauxite ore is leached with NaOH solution such that alumina goes in to the solution as sodiummetaaluminate and the Iron oxide impurities do not dissolve. NaAlO2 is hydrolysed to get the precipitate of Al (OH)3 which is dried, weighed and ignited to get pure Alumina.

What is Bayer's process? - Bayer process | Article about Bayer process by The Free Dictionary
The Bayer process, as it has become known, is used for refining bauxite to smelting grade alumina (aluminum oxide), the precursor to aluminium. Typically, depending upon the quality of the ore, between 1.9 and 3.6 tonnes of bauxite is required to produce 1 tonne of alumina. The Bayer process is a cyclic one and is often called Bayer cycle. In the Bayer process, bauxite is washed with a hot solution of sodium hydroxide, NaOH, at 175°C (called digestion ). This converts the alumina to aluminium hydroxide, Al (OH) 3, which dissolves in the hydroxide solution according to the chemical equation Al 2 O 3 + 2 OH - + 3 H 2 O → 2 [Al (OH) 4] -

Production – Red Mud Project - Bayer Process
At the start of the process, the bauxite is finely ground and, with the addition of caustic soda, converted into a viscous suspension (chemists say: digested). The suspension is pumped through the pipes of a reactor and heated up in stages to approx. 270 °C. The lye dissolves almost specifically as the temperature rises and under pressure. The Bayer method includes two main processes: At normal temperature, the molar ratio of sodium oxide to alumina in the sodium aluminate solution is 1.8. As long as add aluminum hydroxide as a seed crystal and stir, …
